Hear The Stories
Every month Carers World America will be bringing you a fresh story of the triumph of love over adversity. Over time we will have a library of different care issues, from different states, explaining how they manage their caring giving responsibilities and life in general.
FEBRUARY 2010
Carin Zimmer - CA
Carin took care of her aging father-in-law for many years at the same time as taking care of her children husband and home. Carin describes in the interview below how what started off as helping her father-in-law do simple tasks became a 20 hour a week job, with both stresses and hidden gifts. Like most Family Caregivers Carin is reluctant to complain in any way about the role she found herself in, seeing it as merely the actions of a loving family member.
Carin also gives advice for new Family Caregivers, namely;
a.don’t feel you have to do it all yourself, and
b.there are more resources available out there than you’d think.

MAY 2010 “THE BEAUTY BUS”
A few weeks ago my landlady came running up to me waving the local newspaper. “You have to get in touch with these people” .... “read this article, its fabulous”... As I read the article I felt, in a very non-British manner, rather emotional. ‘The Beauty Bus Foundation’ is a relative new amazing operation that sets to bring beauty and pampering into the home for those people who are chronically and terminally ill and their primary caregivers. My interview with one of the founders, Alicia Marantz Liotta is below (press the play arrow and enjoy - length 14 minutes). And if you want to know about ‘The Beauty Bus Foundation’ you can contact them at http://www.beautybus.org . Currently the serve Los Angeles but hope to expand.
